Embracing Sustainability at Rautomead
At Rautomead we are committed to our responsibility in mitigating climate change by integrating sustainable practices into our operations. We are proud to share three ongoing initiatives that reflect our dedication to sustainability.
Harnessing Solar Energy
One of the key sustainability ventures involved a signifcant investment in 144.4 kWp of solar panels installed on our factory roof in early 2022. These panels have been a substantial source of renewable energy, monitored through the SolarEdge app. Over the past eighteen months, our solar setup has generated approximately 200MW of power. This has resulted in a noteworthy reduction of about 40 tonnes of CO2 emissions, equivalent to planting around 2,400 trees.
Efficient Lighting with LED Technology
Another vital sustainability stride was the implementation of LED lighting across all Rautomead facilities. This transition has remarkably reduced our lighting energy consumption by approximately 63%, leading to a further reduction of 1.7 tonnes of CO2 emissions annually.
Electric Vehicle (EV) Charging Infrastructure
We recently introduced EV charge-points, enabling all Rautomead employees to conveniently recharge their electric vehicles, further promoting sustainable transportation and reducing carbon footprints.
Contributing to a Sustainable Future
Beyond our internal initiatives, Rautomead actively contributes to a sustainable environment through the development of our continuous casting machines. These electrically powered machines are significantly utilised in the production of EVs, battery components and high-speed rail technology globally.
How Our Technology Helps our Customers
A unique aspect of the Rautomead process is its ability to cast at near net shape, streamlining production processes, conserving energy and reducing overall costs.
For instance, in the production of welding tips, our innovative process eliminated initial manufacturing steps like billet casting and extrusion, leading to space savings and reduced capital investment.
Towards an Even Greener Future
As we move forward on our sustainability journey, we are focused on enhancing our internal energy self-sufficienty. Additionally, we are eager to expand our services to industries and applications not traditionally served by Rautomead. Our goal is to aid other companies in reducing their emissions and operating more sustainably by providing our expertiese in processing high-temperature materials.
